SOKE JODAI WILLIAM D. MARTIN
OF THE
AMERICAN KENPO BU-JUTSU
KARATE ASSOCIATION
HOMBU INTERNATIONAL
My name is William Martin, I am 36 yrs old. My experience in the
martial arts began in 1984, with fencing at St. Gregory's College. In
my first year fencing I led St. Gregory's fencing team to its first ever
state championship in team epee'. Between the years of 1985-1992, I won five state
championships in individual epee' and placed in the top three in every year I competed.
Eventually I held three first place team trophies. In 1992, I earned the right to compete at the
U.S. Nationals in Division II epee' where I placed 52 in a field of 137 fencers.
In 1992,I continued my voyage in the martial arts by beginning a study of Kajukenbo under
Sensei Chet Chesher. In 1994, I received my brown belt in Kajukenbo under Sensei Chesher.
For several months I taught and ran the school of Kajukenbo in Oklahoma City.
In 1994, I met Soke Ron Bradbury and he accepted me as a brown belt in American Kenpo
Bu-Jutsu. By November 10th , 1994, I had earned a Shodan (1st Degree Black) in American
Kenpo Bu-Jutsu. On November 9th, 1995, I earned Nidan (2nd Degree Black) in American
Kenpo Bu-Jutsu. On September 3rd , 1996, I received my Sandan (3rd Degree Black) and a
award for Outstanding Martial Artist presented by the American Kenpo Bu-Jutsu Karate
Association. In March of 1997 I was inducted into the American Kenpo Bu-Jutsu Karate
Association International Martial Arts Hall of Fame as Instructor of the Year 1996. I have
received a Shodan (1st Degree Black) in the Kaju Kempo system of Karate in 1998. In the
summer of 1997, I was awarded Instructor of the Year 1997 by the World Martial Arts Hall of
Fame. On November 10th 1998, I was promoted to Yondan (4th Degree Black) in American
Kenpo Bu-Jutsu. In 2000 I was awarded Instructor of the Year by The Universal Society of
Martial Arts. On June 1, 2001 I achieved master ranking (5th Degree Black) in American Kenpo
Bu-Jutsu.
I have been a certified instructor of American Kenpo Bu-Jutsu since December of 1994. In my
continuation of martial art education I have attended workshops on Ground Fighting, Aiki-Jutsu
and Western Boxing. These workshops were all sanctioned by the American Kenpo Bu-Jutsu
Karate Association. I have assisted in the presentation of workshops of intermediate
and advanced combat techniques of American Kenpo Bu-Jutsu conducted in Wisconsin,
Missouri and Oklahoma which were presented by Grandmaster Bradbury. I have a passion for
teaching people how to defend themselves which has been rewarded by the survival of several
of my students returning from potentially deadly situations with barely a scratch.
